Water Damage From Sprinkler Systems

We all love a lawn that looks amazing! Sometimes we just do not get enough rain and our lawns start looking a little brown. There are underground sprinkler systems that can do the work for us. But they can also cause havoc on our homes if not installed properly or not taken care of.

• Improper installation: Your sprinkler system delivers water to different zones via a series of underground rubber tubes or hoses that connect to the home’s water line. But if these hoses run too close to the foundation and there happens to be a leak in them, homeowners may unknowingly find themselves with water inside their property.
• Overspray: When sprinklers overshoot their intended watering targets and spray on or near building walls, water can seep into the foundation and possibly into your basement.
• User error: Installing a rain sensor with your system will analyze rainfall to determine whether your lawn needs watering. This can help prevent excessive water buildup around the property. Also, it’s recommended to have your system professionally started up every spring and winterized every fall to ensure correct operation.
• Broken pipes: As we noted above, sprinkler systems tap into the home’s water line. Usually, part of the system is installed within the home to accomplish this. However, if the sprinkler pipes inside the home become frozen or damaged, it will become a problem inside the home.
